So, we prayed and decided on a format where we'd meet weekly on Saturday mornings; we decided we'd conduct a short devotion before the beginning of the round, take prayer requests, and then play and fellowship together.
Even in the beginning with the handful of players, the ministry, the logo & brand, the bag tags, trophies, apparel, etc. that you see now was a staple early on because we felt deep down in our hearts that God was moving us and guiding us towards something bigger and building a community.
In January 2020, we began meeting and playing again with maybe 4-6 people and stayed at around that number until we took a few months off in late Spring due to COVID-19. We began praying and planning in late May and early June 2020 for God to move and show us the next steps.
Careful what you ask for, because God started working as He always does. Our first return meeting in late May 2020 following the break brought in approximately 8 people, then the next week, double, and then the week after that double the previous week's numbers until we started averaging between 20-30 people weekly.
We ended 2020 with a virtual trophy ceremony announcing our bag tag series points winner, Ace Club Member inductees, sportsmanship award, and celebrating our first full inaugural year where we handed out approximately 90 bag tags and added over 150 followers on Facebook.
2021 was an an even bigger year for us. We experimented with multiple chapter locations across middle TN and southern KY, we launched a new chapter in Poplar Bluff, MO, we helped coordinate efforts to install "The Highlands at J. Travis Price Park" disc golf course in Springfield, TN, ran a few PDGA C-tier tournaments, coordinated with Hendersonville Parks Department on course upgrades at Sanders Ferry DGC, actively worked with Trousdale County on installing a disc golf park at Trey Park, partnered with Eagles Wings to host a chapel service at the Music City Open, almost doubled our number of followers on Facebook to just below that of 300, expanded our social media, ministry, and brand awareness, launched a podcast, handed out approximately 150 bag tags, and many more exciting things too numerous to mention!
2022 is going to prayerfully be an even bigger year, Lord willing. We feel affirmed that this is going to be a national ministry and brand within the next 3-5 years. We’re moving in the direction of becoming a 501(c)(3) and will be prayerfully continuing to expand through chapters locally, regionally, and nationally; however, we will still have a solidified missional focus and be one consolidated ministry and brand that is passionate about disc golf, discipleship, and Christian fellowship.
Is God stirring in your heart a desire to use your passion for disc golf, discipleship, and Christian fellowship for the Great Commission as well? If so and you are interested in starting a Discin' Disciples chapter in your local area, then go here to complete a new chapter application today!
